Set down in writing before a tool is lifted. Where what we uncover alters the job, everything halts until you have approved the new number.
The middle pair are the market's figures rather than ours and sit here purely for contrast. Charging by the hour sells you a plumber's afternoon instead of a solved problem, and out here where a run can be long that is a poor thing to be buying. We price the work and not the clock, so the figure you approve is the figure you settle. Out here that also means the length of the run is our problem to price, not a surprise for you to absorb at the end. Plumbing in the North Shore
"North shore" covers a very long strip. At one end it is harbourside apartments minutes from the city. At the other it is large, heavily treed blocks well up the rail line. Both get called the north shore, and a business that genuinely works one end may barely see the other. This site is about the upper end, and we would rather say so than let the phrase do the work. Across the north shore, a licensed local plumber is only minutes away, same-day and 24/7 for genuine emergencies.
Common plumbing problems we see in the North Shore
The north shore is not one place. The phrase covers harbourside apartments minutes from the city and large treed blocks well up the line, which have almost nothing in common.
Hot water systems giving out. Where the water is soft, a dead unit means a consumed anode or a burnt element rather than a silted tank. Gas, electric, heat pump and solar, mended when mending is honest and exchanged when it is not.
Ageing galvanised & earthenware pipe. Older homes in St Ives, Pymble and North Turramurra still run on steel and clay pipe that rusts, roots and splits over time.
Gas fitting & compliance. Cooktops, heaters and gas lines on blocks where the run from the meter is long enough to matter. Our licensed fitters bring the installation to standard and certify it on the day.
So ask which end they work. A business that mainly works the lower end can be excellent and still be the wrong call for a house at the top of the region.

How much does a plumber charge per hour in the North Shore?
The Sydney range runs roughly $100 to $150 an hour and it forecasts nothing about your particular job. We settle one figure for the entire piece of work in advance, so an easy morning and a hard one both come to what was quoted.
How fast can you get to me in the North Shore?
On anything genuinely urgent we aim to be at the door inside the hour, right across the upper north shore, on any day at any hour.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
Any attendance or after-hours figure is spoken aloud on the phone before a van moves, so nothing unfamiliar shows up on the invoice. Book on this site and there is none.
How do I know you're a licensed plumber?
NSW Licence 368473C, and the Fair Trading register confirms it in about a minute. Plumbing without a licence is illegal in this state and will void a home insurance claim, so make anybody produce a number before they begin. Ours prints on every quote we issue.
My hot water system failed and it isn't that old. Why?
The answer is soft water. Where supply is hard a tank silts up with scale and that finishes it; Sydney's supply does not behave that way. Here the sacrificial anode is eaten away shielding the steel, the tank begins corroding once it has gone, or an element burns out. Neither is automatically terminal.

Do you work on heritage and conservation-area homes?
There is no single answer for the region, which is rather the point of this page. The upper north shore is house-and-garden territory rather than strata territory, so the questions worth asking are about the property itself. Closer to the harbour they are frequently about the building instead, and that is a different conversation entirely.
So what should I be asking about my own place up here?
Whether the drainage has ever been filmed, roughly when the house was built, whether anything has been added since, and where the water meter is. Those four answers cover most of what actually determines a job at this end of the region. None of them require any expertise to gather and all of them make a quote more accurate before anybody arrives.

Hot water systems we service and replace

Electric storage through much of the older housing, gas where the street was laid for it, and continuous flow anywhere a tank had to leave the floor for a wall.
